Marquee wedding style: English Country Garden
These can be wonderfully private and intimate. Free standing marquees look stunning in well-established gardens – and they allow you to create a completely new space which is away from the main house.
The garden is key when considering photo opportunities – particularly if you choose to use the outside space for the wedding ceremony. A landscaped garden is the perfect backdrop and you can use the garden as inspiration for building the style of your wedding – such as English Country Garden, Country Chic or Classic Vintage.
On a practical note, choosing a private residence as your marquee wedding venue is more economical than hiring a venue. Also, you know that basic facilities are available, including power, bathrooms, running water and cooking. Marquee and tent installations on grass, sand, or gravel are straightforward, and allow the use of pegs and pins below ground to hold guy ropes in place. A relatively flat space for the pitch is essential, especially if your guests are going to dine at tables inside the tent.

Marquee wedding style: Farms & fields for Rustic Chic, Festival and Bohemian
Farms and fields provide the perfect back for rustic, festival and bohemian style weddings – especially if the field or farm owners allows you to camp overnight. Just add bell tents and Weddington boots, festival flags and fire pits!
Throughout the South West in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset there are some spectacular privately owned fields. A large paddock with a view – over Dartmoor or Exmoor for example – provides a beautiful vista and fabulous photographic opportunities. Look for a site where the property owners have hosted weddings before and are willing to help you pull everything together.
This set up is perfect for the DIY bride, but working with a large blank canvas does mean you need to organise everything from the ground up: toilets, heating, generators, transportation, catering area, car-parking, lighting, furniture … and the list goes on. See here for more beautiful Festival wedding ideas and images.
It’s really important to plan every last detail and be prepared to be ’hands on’ during the wedding day itself, or at least have a support team available to assist you – this is where many brides have been grateful for our ‘on the day’ wedding coordination service to enable them to relax and enjoy themselves. Here are some of our recommendations for great marquee wedding venues in this style – plus we know of a few secret spots too (contact us for more):

Marquee wedding style: Barns for Modern Rustic & Festival Chic
Barn weddings have become hugely popular in recent years and it’s easy to see why. There are so many different wedding barns available, from romantically rustic to chic and contemporary. Each has its own individual character, but what all barn wedding venues have in common is their relaxed and informal atmosphere. Whatever your style, you can personalise your day to create your dream wedding. From homemade food to barbeques, handwritten signs to hand-sewn table runners, you can forget the rules of traditional and do things your way. Whilst some barns may only accommodate a smaller number of guests, adding the blank canvas of a marquee allows you more space to add to your guest list, or perhaps to create two separate spaces for a whole wedding weekend.

Marquee wedding style: Wedding Venues for Elegant and Vintage
With a full infrastructure in place and a team of seasoned hospitality professionals this option is the perfect solution for those brides wishing to have every aspect of their reception taken care of.
This service is not to be underrated – but it can be costly so it pays to get recommendations. There are some spectacular wedding venues in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset offering exceptional menus and service, and with gorgeous outdoor areas so you can have both wedding ceremony and reception at the same site.
Your marquee can provide a further option for either the party element of the wedding or the wedding breakfast itself, and is a blank canvas for individual creativity and style.

Marquee wedding style: Country Homes for DIY Country Chic
It’s possible to dry hire stunning country homes which offer wedding licences and on-site accommodation. This can be a real ‘home from home’ experience, allowing you complete relaxation within a private and stunning environment. This option allows for total creativity, though can also usually provide a list of recommended suppliers so you can build your ‘Dream Team’.
A beautiful marquee in the grounds of these exquisite venues will add glamour, elegance and style and of course, flexibility with space.  For more inspiration see images from our styled shoots: A Fine Romance at Pynes House; Ethereal Wedding at Clovelly; The Vintage Bride Wedding Fair at Clovelly Court; Vintage and Festival Wedding Inspiration at Clovelly Court; Beautiful & Breathtaking Wedding Inspiration at Bridwell Park; Romance and History Wedding Fair at Bridwell Park

Marquee wedding style: Barefoot Beach
North Devon is synonymous with surfing and the laid-back lifestyle. Many brides contact us looking for the perfect Barefoot Beach wedding destination – they want to be free to have a dip in the ocean on the morning of the ceremony and share wedding images barefoot in the sand. The sea will be a perfect wedding setting with beautiful, memorable and unique pictures – there is no sky and no sunset ever the same!
We’re delighted to be able to share two stunning North Devon beachside locations. Ceremonies and receptions are permitted in both locations, and with a Temporary Event Notice you can hold your wedding celebration overlooking the beach in the way of a ‘free range’ ceremony service – so you literally can relax and enjoy a wedding ceremony next to the ocean. Follow this with a walk on the beach for the ultimate ‘sand between the toes’ experience.
Want to be a DIY bride? We can guide you through the process of pulling all the elements together, make recommendations for brilliant local suppliers and, should you need it, offer planning, styling and ‘on the day’ coordination services as well.
