A Midsummer Night’s Dream Wedding in Croyde Bay

Croyde Bay … so often the spiritual home to many couples with its rolling sea green waves, wind buffeted sand dunes and ever changing landscape. This was the destination for Emma and Sam’s ethereal, fairy tale and free spirited Wedding Celebration last Summer…

I first met Emma & Sam in Croyde on a blustery Wintry day to view the field in Croyde. We could barely stand up amidst the prevailing South Westerly that day so swiftly retreated to local hostelry to enjoy a cuppa and a wedding catch up. I knew then that theirs would be the wedding of dreams 🙂 This gorgeous couple endured the heartache of a covid postponement but their patience was rewarded with this beautiful fairy tale. Thank you Emma and Sam for sharing your story x

We begin with Wedding morning preparations taking place at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel

Laughter & Love, Bridesmaids & Bubbles, Groomsmen & Guitars …

We asked Emma how she decided on her Wedding Gown and Bridal ‘look’?

“I fell in love with my dress, but felt the train was a little long for an outdoor wedding (and actually, I didn’t like it as long as it was) I had flower crown around the back of my hair which also had a braid – my theme was A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream. I wanted to feel bohemian but also glamorous – which was when Emma my florist shone – she nailed the brief!!! I opted for sandals as I’m tall and don’t wear heels normally anyway. It was the right option for the day!”

We asked Emma how she and Sam chose bridesmaids, groom and ushers outfits ?

“The groomsmen and usher outfits were the trickiest!!! We still wanted everyone to feel smart, but not so smart that they couldn’t join in on the ceilidh! I bought my bridesmaid dresses from Coast, the multi tie ones are actually really great – they still looked individual and all decided how they wanted their hair and make up”

Emma is a singer songwriter and Sam a musical performer … we asked Emma how they met?

“We met on tour! Found that so many things we loved aligned. It was enchanting :)”

Why did you choose Croyde Bay as your wedding destination?

“We love visiting Croyde – the rugged coastlines, surfing opportunities, stunning natural surroundings – one of our favourite places in the world!! Retreating to the sea has always been something special we do together. Sam has played so many “function venues” and “stately homes” so we really wanted to do something that felt like “us”

Emma and Sam chose the Blue Fizz Events traditional Marquee which complemented their Midsummer Night’s Dream vision perfectly …

How did you manage the uncertainty of the weather?

“We were glued to the forecast in the lead up to the wedding, but honestly, it didn’t really matter what the weather decided to do. It was a little chilly and drizzly during the service, but that is the risk you take when having an outdoor wedding and we wouldn’t have changed it for the world. If anything, it added to the spirit and made everyone get closer! The marquee was beautiful, and we had fire pits for the evening.”

“The fact that the ceremony was a bit blowy made it so much fun!! “

Where did you draw inspiration for your wedding style?

“A Mid Summer Nights Dream, fairy tales, Tracy’s website (so great!!!)”

How did you source your supplier dream team & your style of photography

“Tracy was incredible at helping us with this. I knew I wanted to use my photographer Rosie as she has taken my photo lots for album campaigns. Wanted it to feel special, candles on the table was a must, so it felt intimate and twinkly!”

Fabulous food and liquid perfection

“Say it with love”  Weddings are poignant for so many reasons – a true celebration of the love we feel for family and friends, a time to give thanks for everything wonderful in our world and a time to remember and honour loved ones

Describe your ideas behind the wedding cake and flowers

Flowery, summery, wild and meadowy”

“Boho Cakes were amazing, We had a fully vegan wedding and she was out of this world – we had rhubarb crumble flavour, strawberry shortbread flavour AND lemon and blueberry! Perfection.”

Music and entertainment – how your love of music and its importance in your life  played out in your wedding celebration

“We wanted music that would reflect our spirit so we hired an awesome ceilidh band and then Paul came and did an awesome DJ set. For the reception we hired a New Orleans’ Jazz quartet who were sooo charasmatic”

Words of wedded wisdom & favourite moments

“Don’t fret about the weather, it’ll be what it’ll be. Everything will work out ( our pizza company for evening food let us down last minute and TWO sets of caterers went bust. It all works itself out, stay positive in the lead up!  Let go on the day, and savour every moment. Highly recommend getting a videographer too. We watched our wedding video back, and to have all the speeches is very very special. There is so much happening on the day, it is hard to remember it all, so having it on video and looking through the photos is a really special time”

Thank you Emma & Sam xxxx

Huge thanks also to the genius behind the lens Rosie for capturing this truly remarkable wedding and to Emma and Sam’s Dream Team who all brought their ‘A Game’ to the table for this sumptuous day .
