We are thrilled to be able to share with you images from Sophie & Alex’s late Summer Garden Wedding celebration, captured beautifully by Tom Falkenburg Photography

From the quintessential English setting of Gogwell House mid Devon, here is Sophie & Alex’s story…..

Church bells and chorales, fabulous florals and confetti aisles

Sophie “Even though we knew that the wedding would be sunny 😉, September can be a rainy month and we wanted to make sure all of our guests were dry just in case. We always wanted a wedding at Gogwell because it was the house that my parents had their wedding, and where my grandmother used to live. September was the chosen month because I always remember it being quite dry in the beginning weeks and the harvest. It is supposed to be a good luck omen to get married over the harvest season (although this didn’t play a part in the decision-making process). I have always loved Bickleigh Church during the harvest because I went to the local primary school and we would always celebrate the harvest festival at the church.”

Late Summer footsteps, fanfare and felicitations …

A Wedding celebration embracing nostalgia, the environment, nature and nurture, handmade and homemade…

” The inspiration (for our wedding) was taken from all sorts of places. I have always loved British wild flowers and the low yellow glow of fairy lights and candles which were the main points of inspo. We wanted to keep it simple and prevent any waste, working with nature and local traders”

Our Blue Fizz Traditional Marquee took centre stage for the Wedding Breakfast

We chose our wedding suppliers based on location, price and the overall feeling of niceness that we got from the people that we spoke to on the phone. We wanted to work with people in Devon because the wedding/events industry had taken such a big hit over Covid. We chose the beautiful marquee based on the shape of the roof and the old-fashioned, traditional feel that you felt when you were inside. For the flowers we spoke to Kate Harris who is a local grower, florist and flower EXPERT. She helped us source beautiful wild flowers which we had all down the tables, she made the button holes and, she made me the most incredible bouquet. We chose Virginias Vintage Hire because their wedding furniture gives a comfortable, traditional feel…and the tables are the perfect width to have a conversation with the person opposite. Last, and certainly not least, we found the most wonderful photographer (Tom Faulkenberg) who was exceptional on the day. I am camera shy and awkward and Tom was very empathetic to my fears and made Alex and I feel great all day. He captured the day spectacularly. “

Marquee moods, ambient lighting, celebration feasts and salutations

We love Sophie and Alex’s vision – bringing the outside in -nature has played a huge part in this couple’s styling!

and finally, words of wisdom from our beautiful bride …

Try to visualise what you want, keep it simple (the less plans that are made the less that can go wrong) and take time to enjoy your day with each other”
